Wedding day...

The day of the wedding some of us woke up earlier than others...haha. I started the day at about 7:45 am, my mom woke me up so we could go get our hair done and be ready at a reasonable time to not be classically late. ha! My mom, younger sister and I went got the hair out of the way, (we had gotten manis/pedis the day before. We go back to the house and start doing make up, getting dressed and getting everything that needed to be taken either to the church or hall ready.

We're all ready, waiting for the official driver... and somehow things got confused and he shows up 1/2 hr before we're supposed to be there. My dad's all freakin't out asking where the guy is, I think he was more worried than I was. So finally he comes and gets us, we arrive at the church a few minutes before the ceremony is supposed to start and quickly go to the bridal room aka the cry room... Everyone is already in the church and ready and I still had to get the crinoline under my dress. So quickly my mom, sister and Dave's sister help me into it and straighten everything. As we're almost done, the florist gives me my bouquet...and I was speechless when I saw it, it was much more beautiful than I'd imagined. I could not believe it was finally happening.

My flowers by LZ Floral...just beautiful.

Finally, everything is in place, every one is in line to process and ready to go. I don't remember much, it happened so fast and I was just focused on getting to the end of the isle. I think I just told my dad "don't let me trip". Haha, I did step on my dress a little when I was walking. I know a lot of friends and family were there but as I was walking I didn't really see who was there. Later when we looked at the video I saw more carefully who was sitting where.

My daddy walking me down the isle.

The ceremony begins, Padre Vicente gave this really cool homily. It was awesome. I thought one of us or both was going to cry at the exchange of vows but we both did pretty good. We'll see what the video shows. =O

We're back

Wow, it's been a while since the last post. Let me see...we've been married for exactly 26 days now =D still working on getting our place together. There are still a few minor details to iron out mainly storage space issues we need to figure out.

At the time of the last post we were beginning to freak out a little because time was running out and we were getting close to the day of the wedding. We still had some things to get (decorations, video, pay vendors) and there seem to not be enough time to work, study and wedding plan.

My parents had been telling me to look for a videographer, but because of time and lack of monies we had been putting it off. Then my parents offered to pay for it, I just had to look for the videographer. When I finally looked for a video it was the monday before the wedding, Memorial day to be exact. I thought I wasn't going to be able to find someone because it was so lat minute and because it was a holiday. So I called a few places, a few didn't answer. I left a message at a couple hoping someone would call back. Then later that day I got a call from one of them. We talked about the packages, prices and all that and agreed to work with them. It was kind of a relief to have found someone so close to the date. The deposit was paid and the date was reserved.

At work it was the last week of classes. Actually the friday before was the last day of school at Queen of Peace. I had already talked to the principal to have Friday off because of the rehearsal and last minute preparations that needed to be done. It was still a little or a lot stressing to have to work and get ready for a wedding that weekend.

I went for a mani-pedi on thursday. It was pretty cool, I had never had one...maybe I should do that more often ;-) I had already had a hair trial a couple of weeks before so by Saturday morning we already knew how my hair was gonna be, although the final hair style changed a little that day.

OMG so much stuff has happened since.... and this post is long as it is, so...

The Bride (or her Mother, or Mother-in-Law) vs. The Priest

Since the wedding season is fast approaching, many articles have appeared on St. Blog dealing with the dilemma many Catholic Priest (or at least those who still have a sense of tradition and stopped allowing unity candles) in upholding the sense of the sacrament and telling the bride and/or those in her party a plain 'No' to many of her wishes for her "perfect day".

Here are some sources I found:

P.S. I LOVE the Kermit the Frog as priest!

And a couple of good articles:

Anniversary

Last week (April 8) was my parents' 31 yr anniversary. They had a small dinner at Rudy Lechner's with us three (my two sisters and I ) and the guys and a couple of their close church friends. It was a fun time. We had yummy food, beer and even won a couple of things in the raffle.
It made me realize how time flies. As we were sitting there chatting, waiting for our food I thought of the many things we've gone through as a family; the good, the bad and everything in between. And how even with all the adversities and circumstances my parents have stayed together and managed by always having God close in their lives (our lives).
I wonder about the things life will bring as we start this new chapter in our lives. It's a bit scary yes, but with God near I know we too will each year be closer to celebrating our 31 yr. anniversary as well...and many more.

47 days and counting!

Spring break? where, when?

Well the so called spring break is almost over and instead of just chillin and relaxing we were busy with - you guessed it - wedding planning stuff...aaahhh!!! when is it going to end???

We finally completed the wedding registry at BB&B. What a great place, everything you need for your home in one convenient location, haha. It was hard work but we are done with that.

Then we went to Michael's to find the cake topper, party favors, champagne glasses, guest book, the rest of decorations for the tables, etc. And of course they have all these incredibly pretty do-it-yourself invitations. We had previously bought invitations at Office Max but then we (I guess I did) saw these other ones I had to change them. Problem was I had bought the first ones and more than the required 30 days to exchange/return policy had passed so we didn't know if they were going to take them back. But thank God they did, we were pretty lucky. The manager told us "We're not supposed to but I'll do it just for this time" We looked at each other and began breathing again.

So we got the prettier invitations and I began getting them done, printing samples I was getting frustrated because the things weren't printing right. Then my dear hunny bunny came to the rescue. We worked on the invitations for the longest time until finally they came out perfect. Then the reception cards, then the rsvp's trying to print centered on the paper. At last they were all perfect and ready to go. We started printing and assembling them. They should be ready for mailing this week.

I'll end this post with good news. We finished our pre-marriage talks with our sponsor couple!!! We visited the deacon at St. Cecilia and he gave us a letter to take to Walsingham saying that we had completed the preparation course. Next weekend we'll continue the second NFP session and we'll be much closer to completing that too. yay!!

The light at the end of the tunnel is still very small but it's there and we're getting closer to it. 70 more days.

The headache continues...

Whoever said wedding planning is fun...it is not! It's been almost a month since the last post. Well, the nightmare of planning and things to do just keep piling on and on. We have 73 days to go!

We finally got together with the DJ, signed yet another contract and talked about what we wanted (sort of). We really had no idea about all the small details that entertaining a crowd requires. He asked us if we had chosen a first dance song, an entrance song, if we had a list of music selection, what kind of clubs we frequented (to know our music tastes). We just looked at each other like "huh?" Just like the time we met with the florist and she asked us about what kind of flowers we wanted, colors, sizes, shapes. OMG!!! just give me some white flowers dammit, we don't know about flowers!!!

But of the major stuff I guess, we got pretty much everything covered (we hope). The problem is now the payments, ha! We are still thinking whether or not to get a mariachi and/or a car. We haven't decided on a honeymoon location or how we're gonna get there. Dave ordered his tux, I still gotta send my dress to have a couple of things done to it.

Right now we're in the process of printing, assembling, labeling and mailing invitations (another headache). I thought printing our own invitations would be a breeze but these suckers are more difficult than I thought (aligning, margins and page sizes are such a pain).

Well, good thing spring break came along and gave us some time to do stuff we haven't been able to do during regular school/work days.

We're officially charting!

Yesterday was a busy day! I need a weekend with nothing else to do but lay in bed and watch TV and I think Dave needs one too. Love you hunny bunny!

First, I participated in my first Steps for Students run/walk fundraiser (I funraised $95 !! yay me!!). And even though I did not run/walked - although I would have preferred to do so - I helped out as a volunteer in the 1k water station. But that didn't mean I did not get any exercise done. OMG! I had to walk all the way from Robertson Stadium to the water station (Calhoun and McGregor) and then back once all participants had passed by. After that I went to Dave's apartment to rest for a bit and take a small nap - which did not happen because I was hungry, people knocking on the door to bring small packages - and by the time I was falling asleep it was time to go.

So then went to the Rice Catholic Student Center to the first session - of three - of the NFP class (Sympto-Thermal Method). A few months back we had gone to an information session where they told us about different methods. It can be a little intimidating with the weird sounding names of the different methods and stuff but I think this one is pretty easy to follow and it will work well.
I thought I was going to have a hard time concentrating because I was tired and sleepy, but it was a really interesting class and the presenters, Alison and Mike were really good even though it was their first class. So we had a quick anatomy/biology lesson then they taught us how to chart. We learned about temperature, mucus, and all kinds of fun stuff.. haha. They gave us a bag of goodies (info and materials) to use, we practiced charting and reading the chart and then we were on our merry way to charting on our own until the next class, one month from now.

THEN, we still had stuff to do. We didn't even have time to stop for a quick bite before heading out to our sponsor couple's house way on the other side of town for our weekly meeting with them. But there were good news, we're almost done with the meetings/talks!! 11 down, 6 to go, yay!!! We're almost there!
